The Tunnel

Dear Friends,

What does a tunnel have in common with Christmas?

Radim trusted Christ at a JV English camp in Czech this summer. Last week his mom, Martina, joined him on Sunday morning – her first visit to a church in her entire life

“What did you think of the message this morning?” I asked her afterwards. “It was great,” she replied with unusual enthusiasm, “and I am going to start coming every week!

A bit surprised by her response, I began to say something about the value of learning God’s Word when she interrupted me. “You know, most people say there is not a spiritual world, but I know that is not true. I know about the tunnel.”

“The tunnel?” I answered, trying not to appear too bewildered.

“Yes,” Martina continued without pausing, “I was very sick several years ago and started to die. As I slipped away, I found myself traveling down that long tunnel toward a light. Then out of the light appeared three angels. Two of them waved their hands calling me forward, but the third put up his hand as if to say I was not allowed to proceed. Then he sent me back.”

“The doctors didn’t believe me when I told them, but I know I must have been sent back for a purpose. I just don’t know what it was.” She looked at me inquisitively.

“Wow,” I responded, “I think I know why you were sent back. You still don’t know God, so you are not ready to go. But if you come here again, we will tell you about him.” She assured me she would.

I’ve been thinking about the tunnel all week. It is the same passageway Jesus traveled, from heaven, through a virgin’s womb, into a sinful world. It is the same tunnel every one of us will travel, either into his presence, or to an eternity apart from him. And because of Jesus, Radim, and perhaps his mom, can be welcomed by the angels into the light.

Thanks for helping us share the GOOD NEWS this Christmas!
